Development of workforce housing is a challenge to communities across Northern Michigan. The Northern Michigan Chamber Alliance is engaged in important discussions with the Michigan State Housing Development Authority on procedural changes at the state level to create additional options and resources for state-assisted housing development, specifically in rural areas of Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.
As a follow up to meetings in Lansing last month, Chamber presidents from across northern Michigan submitted a letter last week to MSHDA Director Earl Poleski addressing several programs at the state level for local housing development including Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) procedures, walk score requirements, developer qualifications and others.
