House Committee to Take Up Senate Minimum Wage Increase Bill

The House Government Operations Committee, chaired by Rep. Pete Lund (R-Shelby Twp.), will hold a hearing on Wednesday, May 20th, at 12:00 pm to take testimony on Senate Bill 934, which would increase the state’s minimum wage from $7.40 to $9.20 over the next four years and include potential annual increases in the wage based on the consumer price index.

The move is in large part designed to stop a potential November ballot proposal that would hike the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour.

The Northern Michigan Chamber Alliance Director of Government Relations Kent Wood will be at the hearing updating on the proceedings live. You can keep tabs on the action by following him on Twitter @KentRWood. The committee proceedings can also be viewed online on the Michigan House TV webpage.
