Personal Property Tax (PPT) Feedback Sought

Northern Michigan Chamber Alliance Government Relations Director Kent Wood is seeking feedback from Chamber members on recent changes to the state’s Personal Property Tax (PPT) law that waived the PPT for businesses with a true cash value of personal property up to $80,000. He’s interested in knowing what kind of savings companies were able to realize through their PPT exemption, and if local assessing offices provided helpful and timely information.

Companies willing to share that information can contact Kent by email at kentw@tcchamber.org or call (231) 995-7109.

The Alliance will continue to follow the PPT issue in 2014, as clean-up legislation will be introduced in the near future, and the tax rollback will be have to approved by Michigan voters at a state-wide ballot referendum headed to the Aug. 5 primary election ballot.

Watch the Northern Michigan Business Blog as details on the ballot proposal are finalized in the weeks ahead.
